Mud Bay stone-faced fireplace—Lopez Island, Washington

A clear view of the bay and mature Madrona trees
The owners of this Lopez Island home enjoy stunning views of the bay— but the old freestanding fireplace had a chimney that ran to the ceiling, partially blocking the view.
Anderson Masonry constructed this fireplace using Montana ledge stone over wood framing with a bluestone cap and hearth. We built a footing under the house to support the added weight of the stone.
The fireplace is a gas-fired direct-vent unit that requires no visible chimney.
- Montana Ledge stone veneer over wood framing
- Bluestone caps
- Footing built to support weight of fireplace
- Replaced old freestanding stove and chimney that obscured the view
